AussieRead is a foundational phonics-based reading program for children based in Australia

My name is Natalya and I am the founder of AussieRead

When I was 18, I moved to Australia to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher and living in a world full of sunshine.

From my own experience, I understand how challenging it can be to rebuild your life in an unfamiliar, English-speaking country. However, mastering the language of this environment is a powerful tool for becoming truly at home in a new world.

In 2023, I launched the AussieRead program to help newly arrived children from Ukraine develop English reading skills through a phonics-based approach. The initial 15-week course evolved into a 12-week program, enabling children to transition to advanced levels and, in just one year, catch up with their Australian peers.

Today, this course is open to all Russian-speaking children.
I am here to help your child master the foundations of English reading while introducing them to the traditions and rules of a typical Australian school, so they can adapt more quickly to this (for now unfamiliar) world.

At AussieRead, our mission is to empower newly arrived children in Australia through foundational reading intervention.

With a focus on phonics-based instruction and decodable texts, we provide a comprehensive 12-week program tailored to children aged 5 to 12. Our goal is to equip these young learners with the essential reading skills needed to navigate the Australian education system and thrive in their new English-speaking environment.

Being an online course, AussieRead can reach families in need wherever they may be in Australia.

AussieRead: Program
Our program is divided into two main parts:
Step 1 is the "Foundation" course and Step 2 is a cluster of courses combined under one name "SuperStars".

During Step 1 children learn the foundations of reading by decoding and blending the basic letters and sounds.

Then, when Step 1 is completed, students progress to Step 2 where each term they study more complex letter-sound correspondences, focusing on just a few selected sounds per term.

How does AussieRead teach reading?

Decodable Readers

Decodable books encourage children to sound out words using decoding strategies rather than guessing from pictures or predicting from other cues.

Small groups

Being in a small group of 4-6 enables students to receive tailored instruction, immediate feedback and ask questions, all of which can enhance learning outcomes.

Weekly homework

Engaging homework is given weekly to allow students to practice reading and decoding strategies which reinforces what they have learned in class.
